GFCI Protection..

GFCI stands for Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter. It is a safety device designed to p

rotect against electrical shock and fire hazards caused by ground faults. A ground fault occurs when the electrical current from an appliance or device flows through an unintended path, such as a person or water, instead of following the intended path of the electrical circuit.

GFCI protection works by constantly monitoring the electrical current flowing through a circuit. If a ground fault is detected, the GFCI quickly interrupts the flow of electricity, preventing potential injury or damage. It does this by comparing the amount of current flowing into a circuit with the amount of current flowing out. If there is a discrepancy, indicating a ground fault, the GFCI immediately shuts off the power to the circuit.

GFCI protection is commonly used in areas where water is present, such as bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, outdoor outlets and swimming pool equipment. It is also required in certain areas of residential and commercial buildings, as per electrical safety codes. GFCI outlets have a test and reset button that allow users to check if the device is functioning properly.

Overall, GFCI protection is an essential safety feature that helps prevent electrical shocks and reduce the risk of electrical fires. It is important to regularly test GFCI outlets and replace them if they are not functioning correctly.
